Marty and Tom are competing in a swimming race as a duo team on Saturday 29th May 2021. ***edit, event was postponed due to poor weather conditions and has been rescheduled to Saturday 21st August 2021***

The course spans the length of the Gold Coast, from Coolangatta Beach in the south, to the iconic cityscape of Surfers Paradise in the north – a total swim distance of 21.5km

While we are challenging ourselves physically and mentally in the race, given both of our connections to Motor Neurone Disease (MND), we would like our friends, acquaintances, colleagues and strangers to dig deep to raise funds to assist in delivering support programs and fund research into treatments for MND.

So please get behind us by donating some much-needed money to a really great cause.

Marty has been working with the MND and Me foundation for many years and most recently with John Hanley who has MND. John has a wonderful singing voice and with the assistance of Marty and his friends, has recorded a number of songs to raise funds towards the disease.

Tom has recently lost his father-in-law Brian to MND after a very short battle with the condition. Having a very real connection to MND has sparked a wish to honor Brian’s memory and raise awareness of this monster of a disease in the community.

PART II
So our support boat skipper decided we should venture over to Moreton Island and we completed the swim on Friday last week in what was the most perfect weather possible.

Marty and I swam it together for a combined distance of 21km’s and it took a little under 3.5 hours.

We definitely slept well that night!
Thanks again for the support and here are some photos/videos from the day…..

PART I
The official race was due to proceed on 21st August but due to 60% of entrants being from NSW and with Covid flaring up, the organisers had to cancel the official race on the Gold Coast but instead turned it into a “virtual” event – meaning you could still do the swim as planned but at a venue that suited – a pool, beach, Redcliffe, river, etc

Took part in the Rotary solstice swim at Alexandra Headlands on Sunday.
5km's in cool water with conditions heading north good, but a little wind-swell chop made the two return laps a bit tough.
All-in-all a solid hit-out completing it in just under 1hr 20mins.

15 Jun 2021

Lots of swim training happening at present as well as being part of the "push-up challenge" - 3,318 push-ups in 25 days for mental health awareness!

Had a lovely perfect winters morning swim across Noosa main beach on the weekend as well.

Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately, the wind and swell conditions forecast for this weekend's race have forced the organisers to postpone the swim date until later in 2021.

Marty and I remain committed to partaking in the event, whenever it happens, and will continue to update you all as we gather more details.

Thanks for your support so far and hopefully we can continue to raise more funds for MND in the meantime!
